Cabling specialist achieves energy savings of up to 50 percent with PerCONNECT® EcoFlex’ITTM
Augsburg, June 12, 2019 – Rosenberger Optical Solutions & Infrastructure (Rosenberger OSI), manufacturer of innovative fiber optic cabling infrastructures in Europe, announces that according to the latest results, the FTTACP concept achieves up to 50% energy savings in current building cabling projects. This is made possible by the PerCONNECT® EcoFlex’ITTM complete system, which combines active and passive components and, thanks to the ACP (Active Consolidation Point), combines floor distributor, switch and passive collection point.
In the IT industry, the topic of “sustainability” is increasingly coming to the fore through “Green IT”. Resource-conserving components with low energy consumption and environmentally friendly materials are currently the No. 1 trend topic. “As technology continues to advance rapidly, the IT community must ensure that this progress is geared towards serving the individual and society in an efficient and sustainable manner,” says Stefan Wiener, Product Manager LAN at Rosenberger OSI.
Economical and efficient cabling in buildings
Although IT is part of the problem of increasing energy demand and CO2 emissions, sustainable and efficient IT is the key to the solution. Even modern office and building cabling cannot escape technical progress. Maximum flexibility, sustainability and cost-effectiveness as well as simple adaptation to future requirements are of decisive importance. Rosenberger OSI uses the FTTACP concept for this application scenario – an innovative, redundant Ethernet cabling concept that can be used flexibly and offers high potential for cost savings.
Energy cost savings of up to 50%
Since a passively cooled switch is integrated in the ACP, energy resources are conserved during operation. The FTTACP concept is already energy-saving in production. Compared to classically structured cabling, only about 31.25% of the energy is required for the production of copper cables. This is accompanied by a drastic reduction of 68.75% in “gray energy”, which results from transport, storage and disposal. Overall, the calculated savings in energy costs are up to 50%.
Raw material savings of up to 85%
Already at the planning stage of a new office or building cabling system, it can be seen that by reducing the amount of cable, between 60% and 85% of the tertiary copper cabling and the fire load can be saved. “With PerCONNECT® EcoFlex’IT™, companies can implement efficient building cabling management that makes modern workstations fit for the digital future,” concludes Stefan Wiener.
